# The demo is not the system

Most legal AI dies between the demo and Monday morning. The gap is not intelligence. It is plumbing.

Every law firm owner has seen the demo by now. The AI reads a fact pattern, drafts the letter, sounds like magic.

Then Monday happens. The intake coordinator does not know the tool exists. The template lives in someone's downloads folder. The API key expired and nobody noticed for nine days.

The demo is a capability. The system is capability plus ownership plus what happens when it breaks. I build the second thing, and this essay is about the difference.
